What Wilks and DOTS Scores Mean

Scoring a total fairly across bodyweights.

Wilks and DOTS are formulas that adjust a powerlifting total for bodyweight, so a lighter lifter and a heavier lifter can be compared on a level field. Both multiply your total by a coefficient based on your bodyweight. A higher score is better. DOTS is the newer formula and is now used by many federations, while Wilks remains the most widely recognised.

As a rough guide, a Wilks or DOTS score around 300 is a strong intermediate lifter, around 400 is advanced, and 500 or more is elite, competitive-national territory.

Your Powerlifting Total

Squat plus bench plus deadlift.

Your powerlifting total is the sum of your best squat, bench press and deadlift. Add your three one-rep maxes and enter the sum above to score it. If you do not know a lift's max, estimate it first with the squat, bench press and deadlift calculators, then add them up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Wilks and DOTS scores.

What is a Wilks score?

A Wilks score adjusts a powerlifting total for bodyweight so lifters of different sizes can be compared. It multiplies your total by a coefficient based on your bodyweight, and a higher score means a stronger performance relative to your weight.

What is the difference between Wilks and DOTS?

Both score a total relative to bodyweight, but they use different formulas. DOTS is the newer system, adopted by many federations to better fit modern lifting data, while Wilks is the older and still most widely recognised score. This calculator shows both.

What is a good Wilks or DOTS score?

As a rough guide, a score around 300 is a strong intermediate, around 400 is advanced, and 500 or more is elite and competitive at a national level. Scores vary by federation and era, so treat these as general markers.

How is a Wilks score calculated?

A Wilks score is your total in kilograms multiplied by a coefficient. The coefficient comes from a formula that takes your bodyweight in kilograms and returns a multiplier, with separate constants for men and women.

What is a powerlifting total?

A powerlifting total is the sum of your best squat, bench press and deadlift. It is the number scored by Wilks and DOTS. Add your three one-rep maxes to get your total.

Does the calculator work for women?

Yes. Choose Women in the lifter menu and the calculator uses the female coefficients for both Wilks and DOTS. Switch to kg with the unit toggle if you lift in kilograms.
